Arriva Trains Wales has been advised by the ASLEF trade union of the threat of strike action by their members intended for Sunday 27 and Monday 28 February 2011.

They have stated that no Arriva Trains Wales service will operate on these dates.

As a result of this action, early services on Tuesday 1 March 2011 may also be affected.

Passengers are advised to make alternative transport arrangements for the affected dates. Arriva Trains Wales will not arrange road transport over these two days. First Great Western, CrossCounty and Virgin Trains services will not be affected by this strike action.

Arriva Trains Wales stated that they would like to apologise for the obvious inconvenience this will cause the public.

ATW have also announced they will not be able to source enough buses and coaches to meet demand and to provide an effective replacement service across their network. Therefore they would not be able to provide alternative transport.

Passengers who have already booked tickets to travel on these dates are advised to visit the Arriva Trains Wales website which will be updated with details for requesting refunds in the near future.

Passengers are unable to claim any compensation for disruption caused as under the National Rail Conditions of Carriage and ATW’s Passenger’s Charter, the company do not accept liability for delays caused by industrial action and so cannot reimburse the cost of alternative travel arrangements or any other consequential losses.
