Alstom to maintain Ottawa’s Confederation Line

Listen to this article

Rideau Transit Maintenance General Partnership (RTM), the consortium that is building Ottawa’s O-Train Confederation Line light rail system, has awarded Alstom a 30-year contract to maintain the network.

The estimated €125 million contract is in addition to an earlier contract won by Alstom to manufacture and maintain 34 Citadis Spirit light rail vehicles for the line.

The trains are currently being assembled at the Belfast Yard Maintenance and Storage Facility in Ottawa. One unit was pictured by Alstom a couple of months ago while being moved around the site.

Alstom will be responsible for maintaining the track, the control system, the power substation and the signalling systems.

Grant Bailey, general manager of Rideau Transit Maintenance said: “This contract places many of the critical system interfaces under the responsibility of a single service provider and will result in streamlined maintenance processes and improved system reliability.”

The line, which will be 12.5 kilometres long with 13 stations, is on course to open in 2018.
