A new Alstom Coradia Polyvalent regional train has reached Romania as part of the Sighișoara-Simeria signalling rehabilitation project.

The contract to carry out extensive modernisation and signalling works on the 170km stretch of railway between Sighișoara and Simeria via Coșlariu was awarded by CFR Infrastructura to Alstom, Alcatel-Lucent (now Nokia) and Pas 97 Impex in 2014.

Installing the new signalling system, Alstom’s Atlas 200 ERTMS level 2 solution, will result in an increase in line speed from 120 to 160km/h.

As part of the contract, and to test the performances of the new signalling, Alstom was contracted to supply one Coradia Polyvalent dual-mode (electric and diesel) regional train.

The four-car train was built in France especially for the Romanian contract and has been supplied without interior fittings. These will be added locally during 2017.
