Alstom reveals Italo Pendolino

Listen to this article

The exterior design for Italo’s new Pendolinos has been unveiled by Alstom.

Italy’s open access operator NTV has ordered eight Pendolino train sets to add to its fleet of 25 high-speed AGV units.

An “evolution” of the Pendolino design, the new seven-car trains will be 187 metres long and possess a maximum operating speed of 250 km/h.

Unlike previous generations of Pendolino trains, NTV’s fleet will be TSI compliant.

The order includes a 20-year maintenance agreement with Alstom, which will be delivered from the manufacturer’s facility in Nola.

The trains, which will operate on both Italy’s high-speed and conventional rail network, are expected to be delivered in late 2017 and enter service in early 2018.
