Alstom has been awarded a €46 million contract to modernise Shanghai’s existing metro line 5 fleet and supply new systems for almost 200 new cars.
Alstom will supply new traction and train control management systems for the 68 cars it supplied in 2003 and 198 new cars being built by the company’s Chinese joint venture, Shanghai Alstom Transport Co. Ltd. (SATCO).
The new and upgraded trains will operate on the current line 5 corridor and a 16.6-kilometre extension of the route, which is due to open late next year.
