Production of trains for lines 4, 5 and 6 of the Riyadh Metro has begun in Katowice, Poland.
Alstom is constructing 69 Metropolis train sets as a member of the FAST consortium which is building three of the network’s six driverless metro lines.
The first three completed two-car trains will be delivered to the Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) in 2017.
Around €16.3 billion is being spent on the city’s new metro system.
The FAST consortium, which is delivering lines 4 (Yellow), 5 (Green) and 6 (Purple) includes Samsung, Alstom, Strukton, Freyssinet Saudi Arabia, Typsa, Atkins, and Setec.
Although production is taking place in Poland, various Alstom sites around France, Spain and Belgium have contributed components. Each of the 36-metre trains will include three classes: first class, family and single.
