The Port Autonome de Strasbourg has awarded a five-year infrastructure maintenance contract to Europorte.

A team of 10 from the rail freight operating subsidiary of the Eurotunnel Group will also manage railway operations at the multimodal port which is based on the Rhine.

Composed of a main site in Strasbourg itself, which has 320 companies spread over 1,000 hectares, and several satellite sites – in particular at Lauterbourg and Marckolsheim – along a 100km stretch of river bank, the site is the second largest inland port in France.

The port is the major economic centre in the region and the largest industrial and logistics zone in Alsace. It is also the principal freight depot in Alsace, handling 1.8 million tons of goods each year – mainly cereals, consumer goods and petroleum products.
