Anslado STS has been awarded a signalling and communications contract worth €70m by Rio Tinto Iron Ore, a global supplier of iron ore.

The two companies established a Framework Agreement in November last year under which Ansaldo STS is to deliver a program of works over 5 years to support Rio Tinto’s major expansion and operational efficiency projects in Western Australia.

This is the first major contract to be awarded under the Framework Agreement.

Over the 5 years, the program of works to be undertaken by Ansaldo STS is estimated to be worth around €340m.

The planned projects include the introduction of Electronically Controlled Pneumatic Braking (ECP) and enhanced Signalling, Train Control and Communication Systems.
