Railway Mission is pleased to announce the appointment of Bernadette Cendrowska-Salt as the new chaplain for the North Scotland railway network. Bernadette will provide independent, impartial, and confidential pastoral care for railway staff and those affected by railway operations.
Bernadette, 54, from Moray, brings a wealth of experience in compassionate communication and support, drawing from her extensive background as a professional hairdresser. Having spent decades as a stylist after training in London with the renowned hair chain Toni & Guy, Bernadette has honed her ability to connect with people and offer a listening ear.
Reflecting on her previous career, Bernadette notes, “My years in the salon were the perfect training ground for this role. Engaging in conversations with clients helped me break down barriers and gain their trust. It also equipped me with the sensitivity to support individuals through their personal struggles.”
Having embraced Christianity in 2008, Bernadette is now a Reverend Exhorter Minister with the Church of God. She succeeds Ruth McBean as the Railway Mission Chaplain for North Scotland, covering the area north and west of Aberdeen, including Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh.
“I have a natural calling to help those facing difficult times,” says Bernadette. “I aim to provide a source of hope and a sincere listening ear to those in need. In these challenging times, it is crucial to have a spiritual foundation to turn to.”
Dereck Grant, Bishop of the Church of God and Railway Mission Chaplain for the East of Scotland, who has mentored Bernadette, expresses his delight: “As the only female chaplain in Scotland, Bernadette will be a valuable addition to our team. Her pastoral skills, combined with her experience of interacting with customers whilst hairdressing allows for a distinctive approach to support for the railway family in the North of Scotland.”
Executive Director of Railway Mission, Liam Johnston adds, “We are thrilled to welcome Bernadette to our team. Her unique background and dedication to pastoral care are invaluable assets. We are confident that she will make a significant positive impact on the railway community in North Scotland.”
Bernadette is dedicated to raising awareness about the Railway Chaplaincy, ensuring that more people can access the support they need. Her goal is to bring comfort and guidance, helping individuals move through heartache and pain towards healing.
