For the month of June 2022 the Kent & East Sussex’s ‘garter’ crest on its website will be backed by the ‘pride progress’ flag.
K&ESR Chairman Simon Marsh said: “Equality, diversity and inclusion is an important area for the heritage sector generally and heritage rail in particular to make progress in. I am particularly pleased that the K&ESR have taken this simple step to recognise our LGBT+ staff, volunteers and customers.
“The message we want to send is that the K&ESR is a safe place for responsible people who love railways to be themselves – no matter what their background or personal characteristics.
“This is very much a first step for us and we are considering what more we could do in future years to mark Pride month. I am glad to see the K&ESR leading the way.”
The K&ESR has LGBT+ staff and volunteers in all departments and areas of its business including the Board and Management, locomotive, operations, maintenance, retail and catering.
The Kent & East Sussex Railway runs from Tenterden in Kent to Bodiam in East Sussex, through 10 miles of the beautiful Rother Valley and regularly receives stunning TripAdvisor reviews. The railway is dog-friendly too and dogs travel for free.
