Siemens has signed an agreement with Russian train manufacturer Sinara Group to create ‘Train Technologies’.
Train Technologies is a joint venture to manufacture Siemens’ Desiro trains for RZD in Russia.
The agreement was signed by RZD President Valdmir Yakunin, President of the Sinara Group DA Pumpyansky and Siemens’ Head of Mobility Hans-Jorg Grundmann.
The agreement includes the delivery of 1,200 electric multiple-units (such as Siemens’ Desiro) between 2014 and 2020.
The trains will be built at ‘Ural Locomotive” (a previous JV between Sinara and Siemens) in Upper Pyshma, Russia.
The total contract value will exceed €2.5 billion.
The 5 car Desiro EMU’s (known as Swallow’s by RZD) will be used in service in suburban areas in Russia to regenerate public transport.
The production of these trains will bring together 80 local companies in the Russian rail industry.
