Dresden, Germany celebrates tram line extension

The regional transport company of Dresden in Germany, Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB) held a celebration on May 29 for the official opening of the extension of Dresden tram Line 10.

The extension runs for 1.3km from Friedrichstadt to Vorwerkstraße, with four stops on the route. One of the main stops is the Messe Dresden exhibition centre where the celebrations were held.

The project has cost €16m and construction for the extension began in August 2010.

The DVB operates a network comprising 12 tram lines, with a total length of approximately 200 kilometres.

DVB will operate a tram service every 10 minutes on the route to provide more seats than the bus service it has replaced.

Bands performed at the celebrations which hundreds of people attended.
