A group of engineering students from across Hertfordshire visited First Capital Connect’s Hornsey Depot recently to learn more about the company’s engineering apprenticeship scheme.

The students, aged 15, are currently studying an engineering diploma, established by Hertfordshire Chambers of Commerce and Industry and taught by a partnership of schools and local businesses.

The tour of the depot started with a safety talk and introduction of FCC’s engineering operations by a senior engineering trainer.

Two FCC apprentices also gave presentations about their education programme at FCC. They were then given a tour of the depot and were given a quiz to answer on depot procedures.

Apprentices at FCC take a four-year course which entails a mix of college and depot experience prior to qualifying.

Jonathan Bridgewood, FCC’s Engineering Director, said:

“It is a very exciting time to start a career in engineering with the Thameslink Programme in full swing and it is always a pleasure to support local schools and colleges. We wish the students all the best in the future and hope they have successful careers in engineering.”

John McBride, Herts Chamber’s Education Business Links Manager, said:

“The children had a great time at the Hornsey Depot and on behalf of Herts Chambers I would like to thank First Capital Connect for taking the time to show them around.”
