Chiltern Railways issue updates to customers ahead of upgrades to Banbury Station

Listen to this article

Customers travelling with Chiltern Railways are being reminded of upcoming upgrades to Tramway Road at Banbury Station.

Imminent works from Oxfordshire County Council will provide a new route to the station by connecting Tramway Road to Station Approach Road including a new route to the West Car Park.

As a result, the West Car Park at the station will close from Monday 28 October 2024. The car park is planned to reopen with a new access route in September 2025.

Customers will need to use the East (multi-storey) car park for the duration of the works.

In addition, there will be no access to or from the station using Tramway Road from 24 October 2024 until April 2025.

Michael Stewart, commercial and customer strategy director at Chiltern Railways, said: “The works by Oxfordshire Country Council will significantly improve access along Tramway Road to Banbury station. I appreciate that this will cause some disruption to our customers, and I thank them for their patience as the works are being carried out.”

Upgrades to Tramway Road include a new footway, cycleway, bus stops and enhanced car parking and drop-off options. It all forms part of a series of improvement works which are being carried out at Banbury Station over the next year. Chiltern will be installing new toilets and carrying out a repaint of the station in 2025. In addition, a Costa Coffee and customer seating area will be opening at the station later this year.
