Network Rail is carrying out major improvements to the track at Bowes Park over the Easter bank holiday weekend as part of a £2 million project to bring smoother, more reliable journeys for passengers.
From Saturday 3 April, teams will remove and then replace approximately 250 metres of track and 3 sets of points to the south side of the station on the Hertford North line.
This work is the second stage of an improvement programme in the area and follows work to the northern section last year.
For this project to be carried out safely, the following changes to services on the Hertford North line will be in place over the Easter bank holiday:
- Saturday 3 April – Buses will replace trains between Alexandra Palace and Gordon Hill
- Sunday 4 April – Buses will replace trains between Alexandra Palace and Hertford North
- Monday 5 April – Buses will replace trains between Alexandra Palace and Gordon Hill
People should continue to follow the latest Government guidelines and only travel on public transport if they need to make essential journeys.
Passengers who need to travel are strongly advised to check their journey via National Rail Enquiries or with their train operator and allow plenty of time. They can also follow #EasterRailWorks on Twitter.
Paul Rutter, Route Director for Network Rail’s East Coast route, said: “This work to upgrade the track at Bowes Park will bring more reliable services for passengers travelling on the Hertford Loop, commuting into central London or connecting to the East Coast Main Line.
“We’ve carefully planned this project to keep disruption to a minimum and bus replacement services are in place for passengers making essential journeys over Easter.
“We apologise for this short period of disruption but are confident passengers will reap the benefits in the long term.”

Please check a journey planner in advance, and allow extra time. And please remember to wear a face covering on public transport, wash your hands and keep your distance.”
Network Rail is carrying out 600 upgrade projects, worth more than a total of £116miliion over Easter.
