Network Rail is carrying out work to improve Rearsby level crossing in Charnwood later this month to make sure it remains fit for purpose for years to come.
From Thursday 29 July, teams will upgrade the level crossing barriers and replace some of the equipment with modern versions.
The work, which follows similar improvements at Broome Lane level crossing last month, will create a more resilient railway and mean that the crossing can continue to be used safely and reliably.
These improvements will not impact on trains services. A section of Rearsby Lane at the crossing will be closed from 22:00 on Thursday 29 July until 12:00 on Saturday 7 August.
This road closure is required to allow the work to take place safely and Network Rail has worked closely with Leicestershire County Council to minimise disruption as much as possible. A signposted diversion will be in place for drivers during this time.
Vinny Briggs, Route Level Crossing Manager for Network Rail, said: “We’re upgrading the barriers at Rearsby level crossing to make sure it remains reliable for train services and for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
“We’ve carefully planned the project to minimise disruption as much as possible and we want to thank residents and businesses in the community for their patience whilst this vital work takes place.”
