Throughout Menopause Awareness Month, Merseyrail strengthened its commitment to its people by signing the Menopause Workplace Pledge, an initiative led by Wellbeing of Women.
By signing this pledge, Merseyrail committed to making the workplace more inclusive for employees experiencing menopause by increasing awareness, offering flexible support, and encouraging open dialogue across the organisation.
As part of this commitment, Merseyrail had already rolled out a series of initiatives over the past two years, including comprehensive Menopause Champions training, manager training sessions, and tailored support programmes.
Over 40 managers underwent training to better understand the challenges associated with menopause and were equipped to support employees with empathy and awareness. In addition, 22 Menopause Champions, available across the business, provided dedicated guidance and support to colleagues, fostering a supportive network within the workplace.
A key element of Merseyrail’s commitment was the Inspire Programme, developed in collaboration with Blackburne House, a local charity focused on empowering women. Through this programme, over 50 employees gained strategies and resources to manage the effects of menopause, equipping them to thrive both personally and professionally during this transition.
James Smith, HR Director at Merseyrail, stated Merseyrail’s commitment to supporting colleagues experiencing menopause:
“Menopause can be a challenging time for many, and at Merseyrail, we are dedicated to ensuring that our colleagues feel understood and supported.”
“By signing the Menopause Workplace Pledge and expanding our resources, we aimed to create an environment where colleagues know they have the support they need and feel comfortable discussing their experiences.”
“Merseyrail’s pledge reflected its dedication to championing employee well-being by actively supporting those affected by menopause and fostering a workplace culture that values open communication and understanding.”
