Two apprentices from national rail contractor, QTS Group have volunteered their time to help renovate KIND Liverpool’s SEED Centre just in time for the summer holidays.
Located on Canning Street, KIND’s Seed Centre is an eco-friendly, multi-purpose education centre and community resource as well as being a safe haven for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
This summer, the centre will launch a series of summer camps for 5-13 year offering a programme of fun, exciting and educational activities. It is expected that 33 children from all over the city region and from all backgrounds will visit the centre each week from July 19th.
KIND opened its SEED Centre in 1997 and after 24 years in service, it was in need of some TLC and renovation to enable it to continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment for its children and families.
QTS Group, named KIND as one of its chosen charities at the start of the year and after learning of the work required, two apprentices from its North West team, Adam Tarbath and Josh Burton, volunteered to help complete the work required ahead of the start of the summer camps.
The pair helped to renovate the centre’s conservatory, sanding and re-staining the exterior of the room, as well as undertaking repair and maintenance work on the main building’s balcony space and garden area.
Adam Tarbath said: “It’s been a privilege to help out and complete this work for KIND. The charity completes some really important work for the community, and to be given the opportunity from QTS to come down, offer our services and make a positive change, is a pleasure.”
Since 1975, KIND has been making a difference in the lives of thousands of disadvantaged children and families from across Liverpool and Merseyside.
The charity works to improve children’s self-confidence by developing their education and skills and encouraging them to think creatively, live healthily and develop a sense of social responsibility.
Stephen Yip, Chief Executive at KIND, said: “The work Adam and Josh have completed is great. They’ve helped give our spaces a new lease of life and helped us create fun, safe spaces for our children to enjoy this summer.

Since January, QTS Group has donated £2,300 to KIND and its team has also volunteered their time to help with the charity’s Christmas fundraising and hamper packing drive. Gary Burnett, Operations Director at QTS Group, added: “As a business, one of QTS Group’s main aims is to create value across the areas that we operate within. Part of this, is helping causes that we feel are making meaningful change, which is something that KIND do so well.”
