Campaign for Better Transport is releasing a new video across its social media channels today (6 April) to promote rail travel.

There’s a train to get you there, which has been voiced by Railway Children and Call the Midwife star Jenny Agutter, aims to highlight the benefits of leisure rail travel.

Jenny Agutter said: “Train travel has always been my favourite way to get about. Even the shortest journey feels like an adventure. No pressure, just a chance to read, catch up on emails, look out at the countryside or city views, and arrive relaxed and ready for work or a holiday.”

The video is being released as the rail industry reports that a rise in the popularity of leisure travel has seen revenue rise to 125 per cent of pre-pandemic levels, meaning leisure journeys now make up more than half of the railway’s income.

Norman Baker, from Campaign for Better Transport, said: “With changes to working patterns and a fall in commuting by rail, leisure journeys are becoming increasingly popular. This is great news for the industry, the economy and the environment. Rail is a fantastic way to travel and also one of the greenest, and with a little planning you can pick up some really cheap tickets. We hope people will be inspired by our video to take a train trip this summer.”
