Last week c2c’s MD, Rob Mullen, completed the gruelling Cape Wrath Ultra, a 400km race widely regarded as the toughest long-distance trail in the UK.
Starting in Fort William and finishing at Cape Wrath in the far northwest tip of Scotland, the 8-day journey took runners through the spectacular scenery of the Scottish Highlands, crossing rugged landscapes through genuine wilderness many miles away from civilisation.
Of the 172 entrants of all ages and representing 19 nations, 57 hardy souls made it to the finish line, with competitor number 111, Rob, coming home in an incredible 41st place in 77:08:07.
Returning home from the event, Rob said (on Instagram):
“400k over eight days covering some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Mountains, bogs, rivers, beaches, woodland and everything in between.
“I met some wonderful people and incredible athletes, and the team of volunteers were ace and couldn’t do enough for you.
“Thanks to everyone who supported me and for all the messages I received while I was away, they really do help!”
c2c’s very own and first ever Ultra Marathon – in partnership with the Railway Children charity – takes place on Saturday 15 June.
Over 300 hardy souls – including a team from c2c – have already registered to take part in this gruelling event which starts at Upminster station (50-miles) and Lansdowne Primary School, Tilbury (30 miles) before heading out east along the Thames estuary to the finish line at Southend Central station.
