Alstom’s Litchurch Lane site in Derby will open to the public for the first time in over 50 years on August 1-3, 2025, as part of Railway 200, a year-long celebration marking the 200th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway.

The Greatest Gathering will showcase over 50 historic and modern trains, including steam, diesel, and electric locomotives. Highlights include LNER Class A4 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley,’ Class 37 ‘Cassiopeia,’ and a newly built Class 720 Aventra. Visitors can enjoy train rides, model railway exhibits, live music, street food, and STEM activities.

Alstom, which traces its roots to Robert Stephenson & Co., will use the event to highlight the industry’s legacy and future. Senior rail industry figures, including Alstom’s Europe President Gian Luca Erbacci and Avanti West Coast MD Andy Mellors, praised the event as an opportunity to inspire future railway professionals.

Tickets go on sale January 31, priced at £30 for adults, £15 for children, and £65 for families at www.alstom.com/greatest-gathering. Proceeds will support five railway charities.
