Tata Steel is inviting visitors to put its team to the test at Railtex.

From technical queries to major engineering challenges, its experts in rail metallurgy, track systems, S&C, modular systems for offsite construction and station security will be on hand to listen and advise.

Decades of extensive research in rail metallurgy means that Tata’s people have industry-leading know-how, with experience of developing rail maintenance strategies that not only improve safety but reduce the cost of maintenance too.

Railtex is a great opportunity to find practical ways of improving resistance to wear and other forms of rail degradation.

When it comes to rail grade selection, the Tata team can explain the options and benefits of a range of innovative steel grades including HPrail, Railcote, Bainitic and MHH.

Each one is suitable for specific applications because of the way it combats degradation.

HPrail has high resistance to wear and rolling contact fatigue, making it an excellent option for heavy duty areas on high speed lines, with mixed traffic and where there are wear and RCF issues.

Corus Cogifer works with its customers to develop a solution for project requirements.

The Thameslink Programme approached it in need of an adjustment switch that allows for up to 200mm of structural movement on bridges, beyond the range of conventional Network Rail adjustment switches.

But Corus Cogifer developed a product to meet the specification and four of them have since been installed.

For projects where possession time (and therefore build time) is at a premium, Tata Steel has developed a system of standardised, lightweight components that it uses to design and construct modular platforms and stations.

It recently completed a platform at High Wycombe from early design to installation and completion in ten weeks, including two weeks on site.

Completing the Tata Steel team at Railtex are its physical security experts who can advise on systems that protect stations against vehicle attack.

Visit the team on stand G11 this week.
