Royal Wedding fever hits Chiltern Railways

Chiltern Railways are getting into the spirit of the Royal Wedding this month.

The train operating company has announced that anyone with the name of Kate, Catherine or William can travel across their whole network for free on Friday 29 April.

All they have to do to take advantage of the offer is to show their photographic driving license or passport to Chiltern Railways staff.

There are a range of options open for Kate and William to experience the big day with free travel.

Passengers may choose to travel to London to line the streets, join the throngs at Hyde Park to watch the giant screen or chill out at Clapham Common’s Camp Royale. Madame Taussauds provides an opportunity to get up close and personal with the royals if something quieter is required.

Viewing options in Birmingham include watching the wedding on the big screen in Victoria Square, enjoying a champagne reception and four course lunch at Edmunds or checking in to the Radisson BLU’s Royal Reception.

Chiltern Railways has engineering work taking place between Birmingham and London Marylebone on the 29 April, but they have scheduled the works to enable passengers to still get to London to celebrate the big day, although it will take longer than usual.

The company will divert services via Aylesbury to enable this to happen. For passengers south of Princes Risborough, there will be bus replacements in operation and passengers are advised to check the website for detailed travel information.

Ian Baxter, Customer Service Director of Chiltern Railways said:

“We’re delighted to be able to say ‘I do’ to free travel to anyone called Kate, William or Catherine on this special day and have scheduled our engineering works to enable passengers to get to London for the big occasion.

“Our engineering teams working on the route will miss the wedding which is a shame, but their work is bringing Mainline and its reduced journey times ever closer. We hope you’ll join us to celebrate.”
