Railway Children Sleep In 2021

Free family-friendly fun and fundraising.

With the current restrictions Railway Children can’t recreate last year’s Sleepout – when more than 300 people spent one of the coldest nights of the year sleeping in various stations up and down the country – but they can still raise vital funds that will change the lives of children who have to put up with much worse, much more often.

Railway Children have got a great event for all the family this year, as they launch their ‘Sleep In’ event being held on Friday 9 April, as an alternative to last year’s hugely popular Sleepout. For obvious reasons they’ve changed the format which means now you can get the whole family together to join in and leave it to us to keep all ages entertained during a night spent in whatever temporary camp you create at home.

Put up a tent in the garden, make a den in the lounge, bundle your bed into a treehouse, hang up a hammock on a balcony… whatever you choose, they just want you to give up the comfort of your usual bed for the night on April 9th.

Registration is free for this event – and comes with loads of incentives and entertainment – all Railway Children ask is that you fundraise for them in return. They’ll help you get set up with sponsorship and every penny you raise will help them to support children around the world who often have nowhere safe to sleep night after night.

If you join in this event you’ll get:

  • Access to an exclusive children’s drawing masterclass with award-winning illustrator Rob Biddulph
  • Den building activities and advice to make sure your camp is up to scratch
  • An online yoga class to help you settle down for the night
  • A bedtime story read to you by Hugh Bonneville
  • And more activities that we’ll be able to confirm nearer the time…

A pyjama party with style

You’ll also receive an exclusive voucher for 15% off a new pair of pyjamas so you can dress to impress thanks to character.com (who will also donate 10% of every sale made to us).

Be in it to win it thanks to our sponsors

And if you’re one of the top fundraisers you could be in with a chance of winning a great prize.

Everyone who raises over £100 sponsorship by midnight on 10th April will be entered into a prize draw to win a Nintendo Switch – kindly donated by our event sponsors VolkerRail.

Railway Children is an international children’s charity working with street children in India, East Africa and the UK, fighting for vulnerable children who live alone on the streets, where they suffer abuse and exploitation.

Getting to children on the streets before an abuser can, and before they become entrenched in street life is crucial – the charity’s aim is to get to children before the streets get to them.

Katie Mason, Railway Children’s events manager, said: “With the current restrictions, we can’t recreate last year’s Sleep Out – when more than 300 people spent one of the coldest nights of the year sleeping in various stations up and down the country – but we can still raise vital funds that will change the lives of children who have to put up with much worse, much more often.
