Passengers travelling by train in June and July will be able to travel by bus to and from the station and around town for just £1.50 a day.
That is thanks to a new online offer for ‘PLUSBUS’ tickets being launched today by train and bus companies.
‘PLUSBUS’ is a simple, great value, combined rail and bus fare, designed to save travellers both time and money.
An increasingly popular choice, it gives train travellers the freedom to take the bus to or from the train station. Over the last year alone, sales of ‘PLUSBUS’ tickets increased by 65%.
‘PLUSBUS’ day tickets priced at £1.50 can be used in 280 participating towns and cities across Britain, representing a discount of up to 60% off the normal price.
As well as being cheap and convenient, ‘PLUSBUS’ also plays its part in reducing our CO2 emissions by helping to cut our reliance on the car. Bus and train travel produces less CO2 than any other form of motorised transport whereas cars account for around 58% of the UK’s total transport CO2 emissions.
Three-quarters of a million ‘PLUSBUS’ tickets are sold each year, meaning thousands of people are already using the bus instead of driving their car to get to and from train stations.
David Mapp, Commercial Director at the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC), said:
“More and more passengers are now choosing to buy PLUSBUS because of the added convenience of being able to buy your rail and discounted bus ticket in the same transaction, saving time and money.
“’PLUSBUS’ already offers thousands of people great value for money. And now we want to encourage even more train travellers, regular commuters and leisure travellers alike, to try it out for themselves and start saving.
“So during June and July we’re offering great value ‘PLUSBUS’ tickets for just £1.50 a day to encourage them to start or finish their journey on a combined rail and bus ticket.”
More than 200 of Britain’s bus companies are taking part in the promotion.
The £1.50 ticket is available for passengers buying train tickets online from 12 participating rail ticket retailing websites. Tickets can be bought from now and until 31st July and must be used for travel between 1st June and 31st July 2011 inclusive.
