Employees from the largest rail operator in Leeds, Northern Rail, have been working hard to help local charity, Leeds Mencap. Not only has Northern Rail donated £1,500 to the charity, but employees from the Neville Hill depot have also helped revamp the meeting room in the East End Park Building.

Stuart Draper, Engineering Director for Northern, comments: “Following our community day at Neville Hill we donated thousands of pounds to various charities around Yorkshire, one of whom was Leeds Mencap.”

“When we visited the charity we realised there was a lot more we could help them with and quickly set about redecorating their meeting room. One of our guys even painted a fantastic jungle mural on one of their walls to help brighten up the area for the children.”

Lucy Young, Fundraiser for Leeds Mencap, comments: “The guys from Northern Rail have truly been our heroes over the last few months. Not only have they donated an awesome £1,500 and completely redecorated our meeting room but they have also been on hand to help us through all sorts of emergencies from leaking taps and faulty water tanks to blown fuses and broken washing machines!”

Young continues: “They have saved us hundreds if not thousands of pounds in repairs, meaning we can direct our funds to where they are needed most, to our service users. On top of all this work they found time to create a stunning jungle mural that all our children absolutely adore. We are very lucky to have such wonderful friends at Neville Hill depot and can’t thank them enough for all their hard work.”
