LNER enhances driver training app with Velociti Solutions

Listen to this article

LNER has developed a driver training (ERTMS DMI) app in collaboration with Velociti Solutions to provide drivers with the most realistic and effective learning experience.

This update features more realistic simulations, more accurate screen layouts, additional scenarios and enhanced guidance.

The ERTMS DMI app is a key support tool to sit alongside LNER’s training program, supporting drivers’ transition to in-cab signalling systems. It accelerates their understanding of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) – the standard signalling and train control system across Europe – and the Driver Machine Interface (DMI) used in the train’s cabin.

By simulating the driver’s experience, the app allows drivers to confidently navigate the switch between different signalling systems and enables them to have all key symbols and acronyms to hand to refer to and use as and when required.

Vicki Havron, Stakeholder Engagement Business Change Manager at LNER, said: “At LNER, we invest in both our people and the technology that supports them. This update to the ERTMS DMI app will ensure our drivers get the best, most up-to-date support for training and the transition to in-cab signalling. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to safety, innovation and delivering excellent service to our colleagues and in turn customers.”

Martin Gleadow, Head of Product (Rail) at Velociti Solutions, said: “We’re excited to partner with LNER to make these important updates to our driver training app. Our collaboration ensures the ERTMS DMI app offers drivers the best training environment, enabling them to work safely and efficiently on the rail network.”
