London North Eastern Railway (LNER) is urging customers to book their Christmas tickets now to secure their seats, following a strong surge in bookings over the festive season.

The Christmas period is already proving popular with more than 175,000 bookings so far for the period between 22 December and 4 January 2022, with LNER’s cross-border services to and from Scotland leading the way as people look to travel to spend time with family, friends and loved ones. As tickets are selling fast, LNER is encouraging people to book now to avoid disappointment.

David Horne, Managing Director at LNER said: “After the lockdown of last year, this Christmas is likely to be extra special for many people as they reunite with family and friends following the easing of Covid restrictions. We are delighted to be helping people make those memorable trips, and we’re urging anyone still looking to travel to book as soon as possible as tickets are selling quickly. We’re also recommending customers reserve their seats so they can travel in comfort for the duration of their journey.”

During the Christmas period, customers are advised to arrive at the railway station early to allow time for boarding and to limit their luggage to what they can carry, as services across the East Coast route are expected to be popular throughout. People needing extra assistance are requested to contact LNER’s Assisted Travel team in advance.

LNER recommends customers book direct at lner.co.uk or by using the new LNER mobile app for the best fares and live journey updates. Seat reservations can be made free of charge and there are no booking fees. Customers who sign-up for LNER’s loyalty scheme, LNER Perks, can earn £5 credit for registering, plus 2% credit on bookings to spend on future journeys, donate to a partner charity or gift as an e-Voucher to family or friends. Family tickets are available for a number of destinations, offering great value, fixed price all-in-one return fares for two adults and up to four children.

Customers are asked to wear a face covering onboard trains and in LNER stations where possible. Facemasks remain mandatory in Scotland.

Once onboard, customers can make the most of LNER’s legendary hospitality with complimentary refreshments served in First Class and at-seat ordering in Standard with LNER’s Let’s Eat At Your Seat service.

For added reassurance, record levels of cleaning continue to be carried out onboard and in LNER managed stations.
