First Capital Connect has pledged to continue sponsoring young apprenticeships from Luton Town Football Club by providing them with free rail travel.

Over 40 up-and-coming Town players aged between 14 and 19 are travelling on FCC services to and from training and match days during the week and at weekends.

The tickets have helped players travelling to Baldock and as part of the under 18 shadow squad in addition to the club’s day release programme. This scheme offers the young players an opportunity to train at the first team training ground which provides a streamlined approach to education on and off the pitch. FCC has a similar partnership with Stevenage FC on the Great Northern route.

A spokesman for First Capital Connect said:

“We are delighted to help out the young footballers at Luton Town as they look to start their careers in football. The club has a fine history of developing players and we wish the young players all the best for the future and hope they can bring success to the football team.”

Gregg Broughton, Luton Town Football Club’s Youth Development Officer, said:

“We warmly welcome First Capital Connect’s support and believe this will give our youth development programme added support as we look to develop footballers of the future. Their assistance has been crucial n allowing our recruitment programme to expand into North London, providing players from this area with the ability to travel into our training ground.”
