On 7 January 2011, Systra signed a contract with Consorcio Linea Uno for design studies for civil engineering for the construction of the first line of the Panama City metro.

Consorcio Linea Uno is a joint venture set up by two civil engineering firms, the Brazilian company Odebrecht and FCC from Spain. In November 2010, as part of a consortium, they won an international bid, launched by the Panama City Metro Secretariat (SMP), for the design and turnkey construction of line 1 of the metro.

Under the agreement, Systra will be in charge of civil engineering for the two overhead sections of this 13.7 km automated metro line. Systra teams will be specifically responsible for all the detailed designs for the depot and workshops for the line, for 1.2 km of cut-and-cover sections and cuttings, 5.2 km of viaduct based on the double U concept, 5 overhead stations and a semi-underground station. The contract, due to last 18 months, is in line with Systra’s strategic aim to confirm its position as a world leader in railway engineering and to strengthen its presence in Latin America.
