Following Network Rail’s announcement on the creation of devolved business units at route level, they state that they have been asked by local media what the impact will be on their new National Centre in Milton Keynes.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “This week’s announcement represents a significant change of emphasis to give our people on the routes the ability and the means to deliver a bigger, better, more affordable railway. At the same time, uniting many of our national teams and functions under one roof will provide the support that our new, powerful business units need.

“Our new National Centre in Milton Keynes remains at the heart of our plans to improve the way we work. We’re determined not to undermine the progress that has been made, but to build on the strengths of what we’ve achieved.”

Construction at the site, which formerly housed the National Hockey Stadium, began in July 2010. The buildings will be weatherproof by the end of 2011 and the national centre is scheduled to open in summer 2012, with around 3000 people permanently based there.
