Deutsche Bahn and Siemens agree ICx order

That the supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn has approved an order for up to 300 ICx long-distance trains from Siemens.

In a statement made today, Deutsche Bahn said they will sign the first order of 130 trains next month.

The contract is thought to be worth €6bn.

A further 90 trains are to be ordered at a later point and then a final order for 80 trains is expected in the ‘longer term.’

IRJ say that the first trains are ‘due to enter service in December 2016 with delivery completed around 2030.’

The contract has been described as ‘the largest single investment in the company’s history’ by DB.

“The new ICx will be the backbone of our long-distance network,” Deutsche Bahn Chief Executive Officer Ruediger Grube said in the statement.
